"A Path Forward"

SUNNYSIDE UP MOMENT - MAY 20, 2020

DAY SIXTY-FIVE OF THE CORONAVIRUS QUARANTINE FOR US AT STACK 'EM HIGH PANCAKES AND SO FORTH

Two months ago while traveling our own personal paths in different directions, on different routes at different speeds, we all came to the same intersection.  The light turned red from every angle.  There were no blinking symbols counting down the time we would be held in position.  There were no signs pointing us in a clear direction.  The congestion was evident as far behind us as the eye could see.  And, there was no turning around, no turning back.  Some people turned off their engines and read a book knowing that the traffic would not be moving for quite a while.  Some people stewed, honking and yelling and spinning their wheels.  Sadly, many of the converging lanes were filled with people breaking down, sending up flares, flashing distress signals, some disappearing all together.

Now the light has turned yellow.  Some people are cautiously stepping off the curb.  Some are ready to stomp on the gas.  There is wreckage in the periphery, and yet the main arteries are opening up.  Many of the shortcuts or backroads are no longer passable.  The terrain has changed.  But if your byway or highway is making progress at all, you are one of the lucky ones.  If you have moved through the intersection and can see the other side, you are one of the blessed ones. To get us all moving along safely, wave someone in.  Let someone pass.  Take a minute to help fix a flat or maybe even give someone a lift.  Being there for each other is no accident.  Being a good Samaritan is as important now as it has ever been.

This life is a work in progress.  And if we are really living, we are constantly changing, and the road ahead is always under construction.  Joseph Campbell said, “be willing to relinquish the life you’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for you.”  You may have decided to change your course since the pandemic began or that choice may have been made for you.  The landscape may not be as recognizable as it once was.  But no matter what obstacle lies in your path or how your path has changed, there is a way forward.  Moments of beauty and bliss await.  Green light your love light and walk on.
