DAY FORTY-SEVEN OF THE CORONAVIRUS QUARANTINE FOR US AT STACK 'EM HIGH PANCAKES AND SO FORTH
Plato declared necessity as the mother of invention. The plain truth of that statement couldn’t be more clear than right now in this time of cloudiness. We converted our back porch into a homeschooling space complete with pseudo Montessori work shelves, bulletin boards and a set of classroom rules. A beloved former employee modified her infant apparel business to produce funky and functional face masks. Our cherished church community created shepherd groups to ensure that the ties that bind us do not fray in the absence of flesh and blood communion. All of these adjustments took place in a matter of days following the quarantine order.
When backed into our isolated corners, we immediately emerged with creative, innovative and ambitious solutions. The path forward may seem dimly lit from time to time. But trust that there are fountains of illumination within all of us ready to breach the surface. It is undeniable that when our sparks of ingenuity combust, doors and windows fly open, roads not taken beckon and possibilities explode into realities. Woodrow Wilson said, “You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.”
You are here to enrich the world. So dream big and act boldly. You are the mother of what comes next.
