“Everything is a Miracle"

SUNNYSIDE UP MOMENT - APRIL 22, 2020

DAY THIRTY-SEVEN OF THE CORONAVIRUS SHUTDOWN FOR US AT STACK 'EM HIGH PANCAKES AND SO FORTH

The last few days have been admittedly difficult for me.  I have become too wrapped up in the super charged discourse about re-opening the counties, the small business funding, the vaccine creation, the lack of testing.  So many articles, so many opinions, so many questions.

While I believe there are absolute truths and moral imperatives, I embrace the space between two ideological poles.  My comfort zone usually spans the murky, middle ground.  I crave what lies in the midst.  Barbara Brown Taylor wrote, “Be willing to look between things and not always at them since a direct gaze often misses what may be glimpsed at the corner of the eye.”  This has always been my approach to looking at the world.  It has been my experience that more often than not there is side A and side B and somewhere halfway between you will find truth.

However, like many of you, I am having a difficult time focusing at all.  The middle ground is congested with overwhelming amounts of information and dialogue and predictions.  Therefore, in an act of self-preservation, I have decided to embrace a new, unimpeachable, concrete way to look at the world.  Maybe adopting a black and white lens will illuminate the path ahead.  Albert Einstein said, “There are only two ways to live your life.  One is as though nothing is a miracle.  The other is as though everything is a miracle.”  He was a smart guy, I am confident that he knew what he was talking about.  So, today, I will live as though everything is a miracle and see where that takes me.  I will try to include everything in everything, the smallest spring blossom, the smile of a stranger from six feet away, even the mayhem may unlock some bit of unexpected magic.  Maybe the Grateful Dead had it right all along, “I Need a Miracle Everyday.”  I knew going to those concerts was a good idea.  I feel better already, I hope you do, too.  Be sure to have a grateful day!
